Zeppezauerhaus

Story

FROM THE SHELTER

to the Alpine Club hut

As early as 1872, the Salzburg section of the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV) planned to build a mountain hut on the Untersberg. In 1883, the hut, formerly known as the “Untersberghaus,” was built in just three months and officially opened on July 31, 1883. After a fire, the hut was completely demolished.

In 1914, a larger refuge, named after the chairman Dr. Moritz Zeppezauer, was built.
In recent years, the Zeppezauer House has been equipped with exemplary energy generation and wastewater disposal systems. At the same time, modern sanitary facilities were installed and the entire hut was renovated.
